So I just keep on babbling, and write it down on this little blog space. Who would think parts of it will be quoted in the newspaper? Well, indirectly.
And only a Mom can spot a small quip like that.
A stage mom, if you ask me. She texted me, saying it was on Inquirer D4.
So here I was, scanning through the pages of Sunday's Inquirer. She texted me early so I woke up early with a hangover from glasses of brandy last night.
I can't find what she was talking about. All she texted was Inquirer, D4, your blog on "Confessional" is there.
Then I told her, there's nothing there.
I was becoming dizzy scanning through the pages, and seeing nothing.
I searched for D4 of Saturday's Inquirer, nada.
She texted, it's a movie poster. Ah. So it was not an article. It's the poster of "Confessional" beside "Torotot's." OK, I was looking for an article, but it wasn't.
My Mom has to reveal that in staggered instructional manner. Whew.
It took my maid to finally see what the hell she was texting me for.
And it turned out to be in Philippine Star and not the Inquirer.
Gee, thanks. I even had to look for Inquirer's previous editions.
Seeing it, it felt weird.
Okay, I understand why you have to quote Jessica Zafra, because she IS Jessica.
But me? And identified as a "blogwriter." People who do get the chance to discover that print ad, aside from my mom, might be wondering, who the hell is Lilit Reyes anyway?
So the blog quote was something like critics' quips.
"A JOY TO WATCH!" - Siskel & Ebert
"His finest performance to date!" - A.O. Scott, New York Times
In this case, it was for "Confessional's" print ad on Philippine Star today.
Aside from the "laurel" proofs like PMPC Star Awards Best Picture, Osian India Best Film, 7 Urian nominations, were excerpts attesting to how good the film is.
"Witty, deceptively simple, and often hilarious." - Jessica Zafra
"...handsomely made, surprisingly stark, and very entertaining." - Francis Cruz, Critic
Here goes the clincher:
"IF CONFESSIONAL WAS A CINEMALAYA ENTRY, IT WILL BEAT ALL COMPETITION.
IT'S WHAT DIGITAL CINEMA IS ALL ABOUT" from, hold your breath, "Lilit Reyes, Blogwriter."
( Click here for the rest of the blog post where this quote came from. )
Francis Cruz, who I know as Oggs Cruz, is the intelligent movie review blogger at http://oggsmoggs.blogspot.com .
Being identified as blogwriter, felt like an illegal entry to the world of critics' quotes.
So this is how blogs can go, they're public properties all of a sudden. When it's posted,
it's as good as printed, and for consumption anytime by anyone who wants some quotes.
Well, no issue raised here. Anything to help the movie get more people to go and see it
since I loved the film anyway is more than welcome.
I just felt this funny feeling being an unknown, and just a personal blog writer, what right
do I have to legitimize whether a film is good or not?
Or maybe, I am just being too modest, like any Filipino usually is.
Honestly, I felt thrilled that a part of this blog crosses over, well to a movie promotion.
Haha.
And I wish all the best for "Confessional" in its Robinson's Galleria Indiesine run starting
August 13. (Yes, this is the third endorsement for the wonderful digital movie in this blog.)
I should ask Jerrold Tarog to compensate me somehow, like, hmm...
he should send me a ticket to the Urian awards.
A cineaste like me, yes, geek to the hilt, follows that award show out of reverence
and respect.
Since my quote has been used anyway, Jerrold, bring me to the Urian Awards night!
If you win, I'll take good pictures of you, with my "professional camera."
I might look like your manager, though, then publishing the photo as PR in
a small corner of, ok, Philippine Star. Haha.
If you win "Star of the Night," sponsored perhaps by a shampoo brand, at least you
went up on stage, carrying a special trophy and perhaps a bag of shampoo sachets
enough to start a sari-sari store.
If you win Best Actor, since you're as multi-tasker as Orson Welles for your debut film,
please, don't say and "I would like to thank someone up there," your eyes looking up,
as if God is present above, waving from the ceiling.
Haha. I wonder if some of the lines here will end up again in his next movie poster.
If it does, I demand a bit role in your next film, Mr. Tarog. Hmpfh!
But, seriously now, I wish you the best of Urian luck.
You deserve the honors!
And hey, I don't mind you quoting my blog.
I just wish it can help to send in the audiences, in droves, hopefully.
